Re-board or replace?
If the frame underneath is sound and the joists are close enough together, we can lift the old boards and re-deck it, usually in composite. Often, though, coastal decks have rotted at the posts or the joists have been fixed with screws that have rusted through, and a full rebuild is the right answer. We'll lift a board or two and tell you straight.
Signs it's time
- Boards that are soft, spongy or splitting
- Rusty fixings and black stains around screw heads
- A frame that rocks, sags or has moved away from the house
- A surface that's permanently green and slippery
What we do
We remove and dispose of the old deck, check the ground and drainage, build a new frame on proper footings with coastal-grade fixings, and lay new boards with steps, fascias and any balustrades or lighting you'd like.
Common questions
Can you replace a few boards?
We specialise in replacing decks and re-boarding sound frames rather than one-off board swaps. If the deck is generally tired, a full replacement is better value.
Should my new deck be composite?
For most coastal gardens, yes. It copes with salt and damp far better and needs very little upkeep.
